Matthew Nolan joined our project at Whyville Education in Guangzhou in summer 2017. Please read on for his feedback:
Can you please tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
I very much enjoyed visiting the city I lived in.
Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?
I very much enjoyed teaching mathematics vocabulary to one of my students. I liked a visit I made to a mausoleum in Guangzhou, and I also enjoyed walking around the city on our final weekend there.
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
I have learnt about working in a team and being given responsibilities. I think my confidence has increased hugely and I now feel that the world is a smaller place.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
The reception I recieved from day one was very welcoming and I definitely did not feel like a stranger to anyone I met.
Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?
I would definitely recommend participating to a friend because the opportunity to work as a teacher at a young age is not available in the UK or Ireland for most students, whether it is possible in China.
