Please can you tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
I really enjoyed getting to know the children I was teaching; I felt I had created a bond with each student and I loved seeing them using the content I had taught them with other students and other foreign teachers. Furthermore, the last week in Yangshou was very enjoyable as a relaxation and allowed me to get to know more about the other interns I was with.
Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?
I enjoyed teaching my lessons to the students and seeing them concentrate and take in what I was telling them. I also loved to see the students enjoying the lessons I had planned for them and the activities I had designed. The water fight in the second week with the students was one of the highlights of my trip, as I got to have fun with the students and other teachers and relax after a tough week of teaching and planning.
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
I would say the experience has benefited me as it has taught me to be independent and manage a classroom on my own. Also, as we had little support and information, it taught me how to improvise and also work with others to figure things out and share our ideas. It has improved my timings and allowed me to teach myself how to create lesson plans and teach those to a class.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
The best thing about my China experience was being able to make multiple friends both with other interns like myself and the Chinese teaching assistants. I learnt a lot from all of the other people and felt I developed as a person with the help from others on the trip.
