Our Story
Over a decade ago, three adventurous language students—Danny, Lisha, and Richard—crossed paths in Beijing. What began as a shared love for travel, culture, food, and adventure quickly turned into a lasting friendship—and the seed of what would become Gotoco.
Like many of you, we wanted something different after university and for our summer holidays. The usual internships and career paths didn’t spark our imaginations, but teaching abroad? That was a ticket to a life of exploration, growth, and meaningful experiences. We knew we had to share that opportunity with others.
And so, Gotoco was born.
Starting with just a handful of summer camps in Yangshuo, Southern China, we set out to make gaining a TEFL qualification and teaching abroad more accessible, impactful, and fun. Since then, over 5,000 Gotoco’ers have joined the adventure, teaching across three continents and in more than a dozen countries.

Everyone on our team has been in your shoes. We’ve all applied to and completed Gotoco programmes ourselves. We’ve experienced the thrill of stepping into a new culture, building lifelong friendships, and discovering a career that transcends borders.
Why Gotoco?
Our placements provide real work experience by immersing Gotoco’ers in professional environments where they take on responsibilities that mirror those of full-time educators, tailored to the needs requested directly by the schools and partners we work with. Gotoco’ers take on responsibilities like lesson planning, classroom management, and student engagement, gaining cultural immersion, professional skills, and practical TEFL experience to boost their CVs and kick-start a global career.
Our TEFL programme is a globally recognised, Ofqual Level 3 and Level 5 qualification. It’s delivered online and flexibly, allowing you to learn at your own pace while focusing on the practical components of teaching. With a strong emphasis on classroom resources, the course helps you to hit the ground running, equipping you with the tools and skills needed to thrive in the classroom. The programme is also career-focused, ensuring you gain valuable experience and confidence to take your teaching career anywhere in the world.

We know what it’s like to dive into a new culture, take on the challenge of teaching abroad, and make lifelong friends along the way.
