Rebecca Davies joined our projects in Winnerway Foreign Language School in Dongguan in the summer of 2017. Please read on to view her feedback:
Could you please tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
One of my most enjoyable moments was a field trip with the children at the school I was teaching. It was both refreshing to get out of the classroom as well as enriching to be able to spend time with the students outside of the classroom environment and learn more about them.
Which were the highlights of the lessons, cultural excursions and outdoor activities?
The highlights of the lessons were playing games with the students and partaking in games with them when the teaching assistants would cover their lessons.
Quadbiking and the leaving party that the school threw at the end of the camp were most enjoyable too.
How would you say the overall experience has benefited you?
Overall, it has benefitted me as my confidence and inter-personal skills have improved.
On a more personal level, it has made me appreciate how much I take for granted the fact that English is widely spoken and thus made me all the keener to persevere in speaking other languages.
What was the best thing about your experience in China?
Meeting the staff and students at the school was the best thing as it really helped me to understand the culture and what it is like to live in China.
I have made some very good friends who I hope very much to keep in touch with.
Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?
I would recommend it as I greatly enjoyed the experience and you get to really immerse yourself in life in China through staying for an extended period and teaching there. It is an immensely rewarding and satisfying experience.
